City of Santa Monica
The Adopt-A-Stop program encourages Big Blue Bus (BBB) riders, local businesses, or civic organizations to “adopt” a local BBB stop to maintain, keep clean, and care for. BBB wants to empower “Adopters” to feel a sense of ownership and pride in their local BBB stop.
Big Blue Bus
At the launch of the Adopt-A-Stop program, Big Blue Bus (BBB) aims to have 20 stops adopted by engaged and enthusiastic, BBB riders. Adopters provide an extra set of eyes on BBB stops and allows BBB the chance to interact with the community more intimately, and respond to issues regarding the cleanliness of our stops more urgently. BBB wants to foster relationships with our riders and instill rider pride into our system. BBB has roughly 930 stops, and keeping track of the conditions at all of them can be challenging. Providing an avenue for folks who are ready to engage in their community and see the results of their efforts is a priority of the Adopt-A-Stop program.
Please email Adopt-A-Stop Program Administrator Joseph Santiago at joseph.santiago@santamonica.gov for additional information.
If you decide to join the Adopt-A-Stop Program, we want to express our gratitude for your contribution. Your support will assist Big Blue Bus (BBB) in keeping our stops safe, clean, and inviting for both BBB passengers and the communities we serve. Here are a few easy guidelines and tips for cleaning up our stops. What to AVOID: - Do NOT pick up any litter in the road or on the shoulder of the roadway. - Do NOT pick up and large or hazardous litter including object containing corrosive chemicals (e.g. car batteries, pesticides, etc), or objects that may carry harmful bacteria or disease (needles, dead animals, items with bodily fluid). - Contact BBB to clean up or coordinate the removal of hazardous materials. - Do NOT work in the dark or during inclement weather. - Do NOT try to pick up or move heavy objects. - Do NOT act as an official ambassador or employee of BBB or the City of Santa Monica. - Do NOT touch, disturb, or harass the private property of individuals at, near, or around BBB stops. If a BBB stop is found to be blocked, its pedestrian area impeded, or otherwise deemed inoperable due to the accumulation of an individual’s private belongings, contact BBB at joseph.santiago@santamonica.gov - DO stay away from any broken glass, razor blades, or other objects that might cause a cut or injury. - DO be aware of your surroundings, and do not wear headphones or take a call when cleaning a stop.
